ECP is an aftermarket distributor specializing in replacement circuit breakers and motor controls. We carry the slow-moving inventories that full-line distributors hesitate to stock and offer access to non-franchised lines. Other companies do the same, most of them selling surplus. But that’s the twist: ECP is a factory-authorized distributor for a baffling array of competing suppliers’ lines – almost every major manufacturer of either controls or breakers willingly sits side-by-side with its fiercest rivals on ECP’s shelves – and as such ECP sells only original, unused equipment.
We also have the ability to find obsolete products to meet our customer’s needs. ECP’s inventory does include a small number of reconditioned items that are obsolete and unavailable in new form, but the company takes elaborate precautions to make sure the equipment won’t be mistaken for new. Each reconditioned part ECP sells is clearly marked as such on the box, on all paperwork and on the part itself; and although the company does sell these parts through distributors, it refuses to ship them to anyone but the end user.
For many of its distributor customers, most commonly the national chains, ECP issues written guarantees that it will not sell any of their people surplus reconditioned parts. It will sell them only materials that ECP purchased direct from the manufacturer, which therefore have warranties and pass-through liability.
Manufacturers are in business to sell new equipment for new installations through full-line electrical distributors, although that is part of our business, we are in the business of selling replacement parts, replacement breakers and replacement control. Manufacturers are not in the business to sell replacement parts. That is part of their business and it helps service their business, but it’s not the main focus. The primary service ECP provides manufacturers is a more efficient way to service their installed base of breakers and controls. How is ECP able to be more efficient that a major corporation? Essentially, it’s a cost center for the manufacturer for ECP it is a profit center. In the supply chain today “lean” is the buzz word. ECP enables the manufacturer and customer to optimize their “lean” initiatives. We take the excess inventory away from the manufacturer and the customer by holding crucial inventory in our warehouse. We have 50 years of experience behind us being the essential cog in the supply chain wheel.
The main service ECP provides its customers is deep stock from authorized sources. The company was founded as a breaker repair shop in 1957, at which time it got its first franchises for access to repair parts. It still has some products on the shelves from back then, and it can go back even further.
The usefulness of ECP’s stock depth becomes clear in today’s market dynamics. Manufacturers and distributors are stratifying their inventory into A, B, C and D movers. The manufacturer is saying they want to lower their inventory and they want their distributors to stock more inventory; that is what they are paying them for. Distributors are saying their margins are slipping and they can’t afford to stock more inventory. That is where ECP comes in and stocks the manufacturers and the distributors C and D items.
We also have a rental equipment division. If you need test equipment of various types or generators from 5,500 watts to 150kW we have it to rent, sale or service. Drawing from our experience in the electrical testing industry, we know what equipment you need and how to use it. If you need support supplementing your equipment needs we are here for you.
ECP has a toll free phone number that is answered 24 hours a day. We have the ability to put parts on a plane at either Bush Intercontinental Airport or Hobby Airport at anytime day or night. There have been plenty of times that ECP has taken product to the airport in the middle of the night to fly it to customer across the country. Plenty of people SAY they put the customer first; at ECP our actions show that we DO put the customers need first. |
